As if the game of necessity another Yung anyone, Berg (Christian Ward) steps on the scene and makes squeaky-voiced claims about organism a prince, a knob and putting Chi-town on the map (note to Berg: Kanye has this covered). As much as he crows about certificate and name-drops rap legends who supposedly made him what he is today, he ends up another fly-by-night radio star dispensing disposable rhymes about sex, drugs and money stacks. Caribbean Public Health Authorities Propose To Eliminate Vertical Transmission Of HIV And Syphilis By 2015
The experts proposed criteria to licence countries that achieve elimination of vertical transmission of HIV and syphilis as public health problems. The transmission of both infections from mother to child can be reduced to very lowly levels with simple and affordable interventions, but zero point transmission rates are non possible at the moment.
According to the proposal, Caribbean countries with incidence rates of less than 2 HIV cases per C infected mothers could be certified as having eliminated vertical transmission of HIV as a public health problem, patch countries with incidence rates of 0.5 or lower of syphilis cases for 1,000 live births could be certifiable as having eliminated vertical transmission of syphilis.
In 1995, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) began a regional first step for the elimination of congenital syph in the Americas. However, it is the first time that a development region proposes also the elimination of vertical transmission of HIV. "The Caribbean has been pioneer in other areas, and we can be a pioneer in this one to a fault. This is a aim we backside definitely make," said the Minister of Health and the Environment of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Hon. Douglas W. Slater.
The discussions in Mexico involved several populace health officials from most countries of the area. For Carol Jacobs, chair of the National HIV/AIDS Commission of Barbados, the proposal is feasible simply it will require "strengthening the surveillance and the monitoring and evaluation systems of the region." The regional organisms were represented by the Assistant Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Edward Greene, and the Deputy Program Manager of Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP), Morris Edwards. Also attended the meeting representatives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Caribbean Network of people living with HIV (CRN+), the Caribbean Vulnerable Communities Coalition (CVC) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
"PAHO and UNICEF believe this proposal will conduce to address two public health problems that involve our women and children, HIV and Syphilis, in a comprehensive and integrated manner, " said the PAHO director Mirta Roses. The Caribbean Initiative for Elimination of Vertical Transmission of HIV and Syphilis will be formally launched in 2009, after a series of regional consultations, announced the PAHO HIV Caribbean Office (PHCO).
Country reports bespeak significant progress in addressing vertical transmission of HIV and syph. In Trinidad and Tobago the lues sero-reactivity rate for infants declined from 31% in 2002 to 9% in 2005. Antiretroviral treatment to reduce the vertical transmission system of HIV is uncommitted to 100% of pregnant women with the virus in Cuba, Dominica, St. Kits and Nevis, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and to 86% in The Bahamas.
However, the elimination of vertical transmission by 2015 presents challenges. Some countries have small coverage of syphilis screening and intervention. Antiretroviral coverage for pregnant women with HIV is below 50% in several countries including Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Suriname and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Available data from 2000 to 2005 indicates that 0.5% to 4% of pregnant women in the Caribbean had syphilis. Mother to Child transmission of HIV constitutes an estimated 8% to 10% of all transmissions in the region in 2007.
According to the Caribbean experts present in the Mexico City AIDS Conference, key elements of the elimination first step include scaling-up services of primary bar of HIV and pox and strengthening of wellness systems, in particular paternal and kid health services, surveillance, monitoring and rating. This was first clip that the AIDS Conference took station in Latin America and the Caribbean.
PAHO, founded in 1902, works with all the countries of the Americas to improve the health and quality of life of their peoples. It as well serves as the Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Kings Of Leon Unveil The Politics Behind New Album
Kings of Leon have admitted that both age and more experience have helped them tackle political issues on their new album.
The record, entitled 'Only By Night Night', is due to be released on September 22nd and is the follow-up to 2007's 'Because of the Times'.
Speaking about the lyrics on the new album, frontman Caleb Followill said: "The older you get the more you realise that you have to take a stand and have to believe in something and I think we're on the right path.
“I just think we're a little more political at this point.”
Followill went on to explain that the band hadn't touched political issues in the past because “for a while it was the cool thing for American bands to do”. “A lot of people revived their careers that way,” he added.
"We let that pass over and now we can actually write or sing about something if we have a belief about it and we're doing it on our terms and not because its the cool thing to do.
“Truth is Bush is still in their, the war is still going on,” he told XFM.
Kings of Leon previewed new material, believed to be from the new album, during their headlining performance at the Glastonbury Festival last Friday (June 27th).

Kid Rock - Rock Daly Team Up For Golf Fun At Buick Open
KID ROCK turned Michigan's Buick Open Pro-Am golf tournament into a day of fun and games on Wednesday (25Jun08) when he teamed up with hellraiser JOHN DALY for a round.
Rock, who was hospitalised for exhaustion in Britain earlier this month (Jun08), turned up for his 18 holes wearing a white T-shirt, hat and denim dungarees and had no intention of following golf's stuffy rules, switching to sandals and camouflage shorts.
And his partner, Daly, was just as game to have fun on the Warwick Hills course in Grand Blanc.
Rock chatted with fans, joining them behind ropes at one point to cheer Daly on, and revealed he and the golfer became firm friends after the chubby sports star bought thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise at one of his concerts.
And recreating a party trick Daly has performed many times at his rocker pal's Michigan home, the golfer, at one point, teed off from a beer can.

Day Of Infamy
Breakdown prompts US strike fears
The 100-day writers strike ended in February and is still affecting TV schedules. Stumbling blocks such as 'residual' rights relating to DVD sales, the internet and other new media are blocking progress.
The unrest has already had an impact with many shows in the US having decided against scheduling productions to happen after June 30, the date the current agreement between the studios and the unions ends, until agreement is reached.
According to Reuters, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents the studios, said after the breakdown that: 'SAG's continued adherence to unreasonable demands' had led to the breakdown.
SAG has not yet released a statement.
A separate dispute between SAG and the other main acting union, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), has also fed the uneasiness.
In the past, the unions negotiated in tandem, but a split occurred prior to the current talks and the studios are expected to negotiate with AFTRA next.
